BACKGROUND: The AAPN is - cotton farmers, fabric mills, factories, shipping lines, retail stores plus yarn, finishing, trim, laundry, brands, customs, technology, education, marketing – a pre-built functioning apparel supply chain network stretching all the way “from the dirt to the shirt”. AAPN gives you over 150 organizations and 600 people as your starting point at the industry’s first true total supply chain sustainability summit, May 2-4, 2010.
We believe people are at the heart of every sustainability issue, and that the high level, long term, big picture
issues of our industry extend beyond this cause to encompass risk assessment, balanced sourcing, supply chain, best practices, leadership, business modeling and much more.
The key to this chart is the middle, where they all overlap, into sustainability. It is how AAPN is going to pull these rings together that will set this network apart.
Practical sustainability solutions that actually work are spread throughout our membership and for the first time, we will openly share them at this meeting.
GOALS: We want you, your voice, your ideas, your commitment to sustainability in this meeting. We’ll have world-class suppliers in the room from every link in the chain. Everyone will get a chance to speak in our roundtable, town meeting format. We invite and encourage provocative ideas so we can all "learn forward" as fast as possible and share in making it happen. Our goals are:
• Create a cumulative shared vision of the direction of sustainability in our industry;
• Document, publish and maintain the principles and mandates for change;
• Set standards to guide actions across the chain, openly, transparently, all the way to the consumer;
• Build upon existing AAPN relationships to include new stakeholders who are committed to working on sustainability and related issues;
• Make course corrections continuously and communicate them to the industry.
