Canton, MA (April 8, 2011) – Draper Knitting Company, the parent company to Draper Equine Therapy, makers of therapeutic horse and rider products featuring the innovative “smart fiber” Celliant®, has made their mark on the equestrian scene and now they are venturing into a whole new world – Broadway! Fabric produced by Draper Knitting Company is being used in the Broadway show Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical.

Kristin Draper, the sixth generation President of Draper Knitting Company, is pleased that Draper’s fabric is being used in the musical. “Draper really fills the void when it comes to niche markets and projects,” she said. “We continually get some of the most unique phone calls when it comes to creating fabrics such as the one featured in Priscilla. It was a pleasure creating this fabric and seeing it come to life in such a unique way. Whoever thought we’d be on Broadway!”

Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical is based on the smash-hit movie, Priscilla, and is a heart-warming, uplifting adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they could have ever dreamed of. “The Draper fabric is the blue pile fabric in the back of the bus and even though you can’t see it, the fabric is actually fire retardant,” Draper said, adding that she is also looking forward to attending the show and seeing the fabric in action.

Over the past ten years, Draper Knitting Company has worked and excelled with recycled fibers as well as made vast steps in today’s “green” movement. In more recent years, the company has ventured into new markets, including Draper Therapies™, a line of fabrics and finished products, which helps to increase circulation. Their latest endeavor, Tactical Textiles™ launched in 2009, combines technologically advanced fabric formations and the newest fibers, yarn and coatings designed for safety and performance.

In addition to branching out into new markets, Draper Knitting has always kept a focus on their traditional markets like Paint Roller Fabrics and Outerwear Fabrics, which have been a mainstay for them since the beginning. Draper Knitting Company works with companies such as Patagonia, LLBean, Sherwin Williams, Team Simpson, Osprey and West Paw Designs.

In the equestrian world, Draper Equine Therapy has proven to be a leader in keeping horses and riders healthy. “The team at Draper Equine Therapy is committed to helping riders worldwide discover the therapeutic benefits of increased circulation and oxygenation; increased recovery time after muscle exertion or injury; and decreased pain, soreness, stiffness, and swelling,” said Kat Wojtylak, Product Manager at Draper Therapies. “All of the Draper products are made with Celliant, the world’s most technologically advanced fiber that is a proprietary blend of minerals which have been extruded into a polyester fiber. Celliant encourages not only alleviation of pain and other negative symptoms, but an actual improvement of the body's natural systems.”
